Position Overview & Specifications

NCS carrries out specialist digitisation of very vulnerable manuscripts, photographs and other archives as an integral part of a conservation treatment workstream. The post-holder will work alongside qualified Conservators who specify the nature of conservation treatment programmes and the nature and means of capturing images of items and their output. The post-holder will be trained to handle vulnerable items under the camera and to contribute to evaluating the safest and most appropriate procedures, developing a full understanding of software for capture, file naming methodologies and file format outputs and digital storage for customers. The post-holder will contribute and advise when appropriate on technical and software developments to improve the service over time. When trained fully the post-holder will be asked, if required, to assist Conservators in visiting customers' archives and museums to assess digitisation project demands and costs.
