Covid-19, and the subsequent cost of living crisis have had a profound affect on the financial security and financial resilience of Lambeth residents, resulting in increasing demand for advice services and financial support. The Cost-of-Living Link Worker is a new role created as a part of the Council’s wider response to the cost-of-living crisis, piloting a proactive and targeted approach to residents indicated as being the most vulnerable to ensure they are aware of, and supported to access the full range of support available to them through central government and local authority initiatives. Recognising the benefits that good work brings for residents both financially and in terms of health and wellbeing, the postholder will also explore opportunities for residents to progress onto an employment and training routeway, wherever this is feasible.

The Link Worker will work collaboratively with residents to develop a personalised action plan, setting out next steps and tracking progress of their caseload. The service will be flexible, offering in-person, remote, or telephone consultations as appropriate to resident need.

As the postholder will be engaging and supporting some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents, empathy, and the ability to build rapport is essential, along with a sound understanding of the types of challenges faced by residents in the current economic climate and potential resolutions.
