Position Overview & Specifications

Role: Publishing Design Project Manager, non-fiction

Full time - in-house – hybrid - remote – freelance

Salary: DOE

Software: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Microsoft Office, In-house project management system.

Who we are:

Established in 2005, Dynamo Limited is a creative services studio working with some of the biggest names in the entertainment, product, and publishing industries. Based in the centre of Exeter, Devon, the company is made up of a core in-house team of project managers, editors, designers, writers, illustrators, and 3D artists/animators, plus over 70 external freelance contributors. We work on a wide range of books for children and adults in a demanding, client-led environment, handling established production pipelines and workflows, often under pressure and to tight deadlines. Our impressive list of clients, including Dorling Kindersley, Hachette, Harper Collins, Ladybird, Lonely Planet Kids, Macmillan, National Geographic Kids, Penguin, Puffin, and Welbeck, are testament to the quality of our work and reflect the profile of the projects we undertake.

Job description:

We are urgently seeking an experienced book designer to join our publishing team and work mainly on non-fiction titles on either a full-time or freelance basis.

What we are looking for:

Β· We expect you to have at least five years’ experience working in publishing and a good working knowledge of non-fiction titles, so that you can independently and confidently tackle whatever project you face next.

Β· The successful candidate needs to be versatile and have a strong detail and technical eye to ensure quality is maintained across hundreds of pages of content, with a good working knowledge of production methods.

Β· Reporting to the Publishing Manager, you will be expected to manage the day-to-day running of multiple projects, from initial planning stage through briefing and managing suppliers and clients, all the while carefully managing the budget. Depending on the project, you may be required to undertake design work, but need to be equally comfortable managing/overseeing others.

What we offer:

Β· This role offers you the opportunity to be involved in a fast paced, vibrant working atmosphere, with colleagues who collaborate and support each other to not only fulfil a diverse range of client briefs, but also to express their individual creativity, grow their industry knowledge, and become an integral member of a dynamic team of creatives.

Β· For full-time staff, we offer a range of employee benefits, including; 25 days holiday + bank holidays, office shut down over Christmas and New Year, an employee pension scheme, a NHS top-up medical scheme with WPA (after the first year of employment), as well as several staff perks throughout the year – such as Christmas parties and fun days-out.

Β· An in-house or hybrid position is preferable so the role would ideally suit someone who is local, but we are willing to explore remote working for the right candidate.
