It's an exciting time to join Buy it Direct! We are on the lookout for a passionate multiskilled web designer.

If you are looking for a role with plenty of variety, and the opportunity to make an impact then look no further. We're a large multi-brand e-commerce retailer with exciting growth plans.

As a front-end web designer, you will take ownership of the design and build of our websites and digital environment.

With a user-centred approach you will look for ways to deliver the best experience for our customers, focussing on creating seamless shopping journeys and improving the overall brand experience.

What will you be doing:

  • Ownership of website design and functionality in line with brand guidelines and development roadmap
  • Working from a brief to prototype new designs and functionality in Figma or Adobe XD, taking feedback on board and making improvements accordingly.
  • Work closely with our developers when required to bring your designs to life
  • Work on tasks from the wider business in a fortnightly sprint process
  • Responding to and working to fix website bugs quickly.
  • Working with our in-house CMS to edit and publish content

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Curious:
we want you to enjoy what you do and relish developing your understanding of our products and customers.
  • Ambitious: we think differently from most companies, which inspires us to be flexible, experiment with new ideas and become even better.
  • Driven: Take responsibility for your projects, deliver them to a high standard and positively engage with every person you meet.
  • Savvy: familiar with industry-standard design tools like Photoshop and illustrator, with a basic understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Collaborative: someone that is happy to help or be helped by other members of the team. We've got a close-knit team of great designers on hand to support each other.

The skills we're looking for:

Required

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, XD, Illustrator) and Figma for wire-framing/prototyping
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS and knowledge of jQuery and/or JavaScript
  • An understanding of user-centred design (UCD) and basic UI design principles, awareness of usability and web accessibility.
  • Able to work with a design library to keep designs consistent and on-brand
  • Able to manage tasks effectively from prototype through to completion and communicate with technical and non-technical people throughout the business.

Desirable

  • Experience working with Microsoft Visual Studio is desirable, but training can be given

  • Experience working in eCommerce
  • Shopify experience
